Reflections

The sun is setting; the stars have come out.
I'm drawn to reflect on the changes I see
asking the night sky, "What's life all about?
Why do things change? Why no guarantee?"

It occured to me, then, that the stars out tonight
aren't arranged as they were in times before.
They have not dimmed; they shine just as bright.
They've just moved on; it's their nature to soar.

And so it is, with people in our lives.
Celestial like, they may pass from sight.
When they're away, we must recognize
they have not dimmed; they still shine bright.

Those special ones who've touched our hearts
are held within, never far from mind.
Like the stars, their beauty never departs.
They're always with us, in memory, entwined.

Just like the lights reflecting on the lake,
you may be gone but your image remains.
Loving you was a blessing, not a mistake.
You'll be here in my heart until we meet again.

Night has fully fallen; the heavens burn bright.
My questions, now answered, fall by the wayside.
I breathe in the cool air and stare into the night
knowing you're with me, held tightly inside.
