Claws-trophobic
Yolanda opened her eyes to see Muggles, her Persian, staring directly back. The cat began purring and rubbing its head against her face. “Muggles,” she laughed, reaching up and pushing the furry head back. The cat reached out and tapped her face. “Ouch!” Yolanda delicately removed the cat’s claw from her cheek. “You’re going to make me claustrophobic if you don’t give me some room.” The inadvertent pun brought a chuckle to her lips. She stretched, releasing a long sigh. The cat, seeing the movement, pounced on her foot. “Muggles,” she blurted, “you’re going to make me wish I had adopted kids instead of you!” The cat, as usual, ignored her protests and wormed its way under her hand for more petting. The smell of coffee finally enticed her to get up and Muggles disappeared. Throwing on a robe, Yolanda went to the kitchen and was halted in her tracks. On the counter, where a vase of roses had rested the night before, stood as dozen long stems. Muggles sat proudly in the middle of the petals which now lay like a rose-colored carpet. “Now that’s going too far!” she exclaimed, crossing the room and grabbing for the cat. Muggles, having divined her intentions, seemed to vanish over the counter edge. As much as I love that darn cat … She let the thought trail off as she poured herself a cup and sat, enjoying the warm earthy smell of the coffee. She carefully brought the hot liquid to her lips and took a first sip. “Gawwwk!” Along with coffee, she had taken in several cat hairs. She jumped for the sink and spit the tainted brew out. She reached into the cup and fished a couple of more hairs out. Suddenly, she began smile. Well, I guess I’m finally de-cat-finating!
