The words keep falling easily,
like autumn leaves--
we talk so much and say
so little,
masks of joy and
the mirage
of moving on
keep me treading water
a little longer,
but my arms burn--
soon I'll be under--
I still smell the letters
you wrote me then;
I close my eyes--
the scent
takes me away, and I swear
I can touch your hair,
feel your breath,
smell your neck--
I drift aimless
on the wings of a hope,
a foolish daydream
that dissolves
into suffocating blackness--
it's night--
the cool of bedsheets
graze my legs and I know
I am alone--
once again,
I learn to breathe...
because it's been
so long,
but even so,
I caught myself
dreaming
of you
again...
