AN OLD GRAY MARE
She'd run like the wind In her younger days, in fields of green grass and on prairie gold. No one would ever look at her and think that the gray mare would ever get this old. Now she's just an old gray mare - no saddle on her back anymore. She's been put out to pasture for she's gotten lame and sore. Her gait is slow but oh, so steady, and she hangs her head down low. An old gray mare she has become and it's almost time for her to go. Chorus: She tosses her head and neighs,. she's had her share of good days! The old mare knows if that's her fate, she'll be renewed at Heaven's gate. There is a kind old angel in Heaven who used to ride on the open range. He trusted his gray mare's sure step to get him through, it wouldn't change. He would ride her to watch the sunset and the blue mountains of his home, Time came when the man passed away and the old gray mare was left alone. Chorus: She tosses her head and neighs,. she's had her share of good days! The old mare knows if that's her fate, she'll be renewed at Heaven's gate. The old angel made a trip to Earth by the very goodness of Saint Peter, to ride one last time his gray mare and the reunion was never sweeter! Now among the clouds they ride, as the angels sing a country song, Man and horse once more together because that's where they belong. She tosses her head and neighs and the old angel happily waves!. . Countrymom 5/28/11 Revised 5/29/11 (Don't you love a Happy Ending?) .
