You promised, O friend, that you will stay
But then you decided to walk away

You said you were never going to leave
But then you left, which is hard to believe

We somehow thought that the cruel fate
Had said to you that it could wait

But then it came from out of the blue
And made us now all weep for you

But you didn’t have to leave in a flurry
You could have waited; what was the hurry?

Lo tum bhee gaay, hum nay toe samjha tha keh tum nay
Baandha tha kie yaaroun say paimaan e wafa aur

Yeh ahd keh ta umr e rawaan saath raho gay
Rastay maen bichhar jaa'aen gay jab ahl e safa aur

Hum samjhay thay sayyaad ka tarkash hua khaali
Baaqi tha mager is maen abhee teer e qaza aur

Her khaar reh e dasht e watan ka hay sawaali
Kab daekhiay aata hay koie aablapaa aur

Aanay maen taamul tha ager roaz e jaza ko
Achhchha tha thhehr jaatay ager tum bhee zara aur
