Bent Tree Longs to Rise
Can you hear it sigh?

Bent Tree Longs to Rise

In the garden, a leaning tree stands.
As if burdened, it's vast limbs bend low
Gnarled and twisted like old women's hands.
In silence, the lonely tree withstands
Longing no majestic tree can know.

More in touch with the earth than the sky,
The old leaning tree has no real choice
But to live the life it can't deny.
In the midnight hour, it breathes a sigh
And wishes heaven could hear its voice.

How it would sing if its limbs could rise,
Straight and tall with the vigor of youth,
And with gratitude it would reprise,
Over and over shouting the truth,
"I'm a tall tree in bent tree's disguise!"
