                                          Ghazal 246


Persian:  Zay gasht mast raseed o ba hoash e khaish nabood
              Dilam zay sabr basay laaf zad walaysh nabood
Urdu:      Raha maen daekh kay tujh ko ba hoash e khaish na tha
              Qaraar kum tha bohat dil maen, sabr baish na tha

English:=== O you'll be dazzled when you see her face
                  It has such beauty, and charm, and grace
                                              -

Persian:  Zadand raah e dilam aahooaan e bai insaaf
              Keh az hazaar khadangash yakay ba kaish nabood
Urdu:      Kamaandaar ghizaalaan thay ja ba ja rehzan
              Hazaar teer thay laikin koie ba kaish na tha

English:=== When she looks at you, she throws a dart
                  That hits, and jabs, and stabs the heart
                                            -

Persian:  Ba sad hazaar dilash aashiqaan khareedaarand
              Baha e Yusuf ager hafdah qalb baish nabood
Urdu:      Hazaar dil say khareedaar her Zulaikha thi
              Baha e Yusuf e Kinaan usay yeh baish na tha

English:=== And if you've seen her, you'll concur
                  That she makes you fall in love with her
                                              -

Persian:  Namak ba raish e mun aey paarsa mazan az pand
              Ba shukr e aan keh dilat heetch gaah raish nabood
Urdu:      Bohat wo pand say waaiz namak chhirhakta tha
              Keh us ka qalb hua aashiqi say raish na tha

English:=== And though he poses as a moralist
                  Her even the preacher, he cannot resist
                                              -

Persian:  Chun wasl meetalabi KHUSRO, az bala magraiz
              Keh dar jahaan asalay bai gazand e naish nabood
Urdu:      Gila gazand ka tha ishq maen kuin, jab KHUSRO
              Asal kisi ko mila bai gazand e naish na tha

English:=== But, KHUSRO, to me it's also quite plain
                  That you cannot love her without the pain
                                            ====
