It has been so long,
Standing in deep waters That should be shallow. Pain comes in each wave, The water, brackish and muddy. I hated coming here This place of no refuge. A place where starkness reigns And sorrow rules. Ghosts of the past, Fears of the future, And agony of the present Prevail in each labored breath. "You are foolish" said I to I, "It lies only in your mind And your apprehension." But I was only kidding myself, As the rip tide nears And I know I need to turn back To the shallow, clear water Made of summer rain And not my tears
