Feathered Muses

Bonnie the bird breathed in the fresh morning air and piped out a glorious song. Her sister Sylvia joined in at the refrain, but sister Liza remained silent.

“Liza, what’s wrong?” Bonnie asked. “Why aren’t you singing?”

“The sun’s blinding my eyes. This fence post hurts my claws.”

“Oh, Liza,” Sylvia chirped. “Stop focusing on what’s wrong and enjoy the dawning of another beautiful day.”

“Yes, and if the sun’s in your eyes, you can always turn around,” added her well-meaning sister Bonnie.

“And this fencepost is much more comfortable than that telephone line.” Sylvia’s feathered wing pointed at a thin wire stretched between two poles.

“Yeah, but—,” Liza started.

No but’s,” Bonnie interrupted. “Our job as birds is important. Look through that window at the woman sitting at her computer. She has an important job to do today.”

“Really, what is it?” Liza asked.

“She’s a member of the WDC Power Reviewers. Today they are having a review raid and we’re her muse, her inspiration. Without us she won’t be able to give valuable critiques to the members of WDC,” Bonnie said.

“Wow! I didn’t know my singing was so important.”

“It is.” Sylvia squeaked. “We’re part of a worldwide army of birds who inspire WDC Power Reviewers to write rocking reviews.”

Liza puffed out her chest, opened her beak and chirped out a promising song. Bonnie and Sylvia joined in, bellowing notes of inspiration across the yard.

Upon hearing the three bird’s musical chorus, the woman on the computer glanced outside and smiled. The sweet melody playing near her window rejuvenated her mind with a burst of creativity. She signed into her WDC account, read a short story and wrote a wonderful, powerful review.
