Little Brothers
Sometimes it's hard being the big brother.

                                             LITTLE BROTHERS!

On his tenth birthday Michael became the proud possessor of a microscope.  It was a toy one, of course. But the book that came with it was interesting.  Looking up he saw his brother Jared staring at him.  Jared was seven, and he was a pest.  You could tell he was just itching to get his hands on Michael’s new stuff, especially the microscope. That’s the worst about little brothers: they touch your stuff.  When you complain about it your parents say things like “Take turns,” or “Share.”

Michael knew his best bet was to keep his new thing hidden, but where?  Jared was like a bloodhound for finding things.

Michael read the book and set up his microscope.  Ignoring Jared’s pleas of “Let me see!” he put the slide marked fly’s wing under the lens.  “Let me see! Let me see!” piped Jared.  He was starting to cry.

“Michael, let Jared see.” his mother commanded.

Jared grabbed and then said “I can’t see nothing.”

“You grabbed it and put it out of focus.  You look through it you don’t grab it.”

“Don’t yell at him, show him how,” their mother said.

Michael sighed.  Jared would not let go of it.  Trying to take it from him would get it broken and get Jared crying so Mom would be mad.

Michael took a deep breath and tried to explain.  “Put it on the table so it doesn’t move.  Then I’ll turn this knob until you can see.”

It took a while but finally Jared saw the fly’s wing.  “Awesome!  Can I look at the other stuff with you?” he asked.

Michael smiled, “Sure!”  Their mother was smiling, too.
