Don't look over the fence
Or do. Rules were meant to be broken, after all.

A lush green field was where we lay,
white clouds topping the perfect day.

Butterflies alighted on my nose,
cool water trickled past my toes.

Silence was the only sound,
echoing without rebound.

We lay, I don't know for how long,
harking to the simple song.

The sky, a faultless shade of blue,
became my eyes, gave them its hue.

Looking down upon our field,
we saw a fence that would not yield.

It spoke of fear, of things unseen,
of places that we'd never been.

Laying there, we felt a pull,
working on a mask of wool.

She pulled me up, said "we must go",
I was more than happy to follow.

We clambered up, sat on the peak,
took in the sight, yet did not speak.

Our words were taken by the sight,
a moment of joy, not feeling fright.

Countless people waited there,
smiling, flowers in their hair.

We looked back to our private field,
knew the fence could not be sealed.

Off we leapt, walked through the crowd,
discovered they would never frown.

We asked "why did you hide so long?"
we asked "what had we done so wrong?"

The reply came back, and so we knew,
the simple things are hard to do.

"You two were always welcome here,
you just had to defeat your fear."
