Lost to Fear
The fire's cause was irrelevant. What mattered was that Cassie had died with the sailboat, because fear had kept him from even trying to save her. Shame and grief were his only companions, until the sharks came. He stabbed at one, but only slashed the raft. As they closed in, he prayed she'd forgiven him.
