Uncle Percy’s Funeral

A good man will be buried today
A man of God or so they say
To heaven now he’s on his way
If you believe in judgement day

A sermon in a dim light hall
A eulogy that says it all
A speech his virtues to extol
A man of God he had it all

A loving family weep for him
A Pastor says a prayer for him
A congregation sings for him
Even the sunlight shines for him

Some believe the soul to heaven flies
But I believe that this is lies
That all is gone when the body dies
But even this unbeliever cries

For no matter what my beliefs may be
This good man was family
And I am sad to see him pass away
And leave us so bereft today

And although I may not bow and pray
To show respect in my own way
I bear witness at his funeral today
And cry for a good man passed away
