Silent Reminiscence
Silently reminiscing in my mind, I look upon the days and years gone by as doors and portals I was meant to find: the ones I opened and those I did not try. The “what if” game playing within my head points to a few closed doors with deep regret. The paths not taken where I’ve never tread appear as a shadowy silhouette. What might have been as my life took its shape lies in the vastness of the great unknown. Along with those dangers I did escape are answers to questions I’ll not be shown. Age brings perspective on the life we’ve made. When we missed the mark and times when we won don’t seem as important as how we played; or the fact we finished things we’ve begun. The future still holds many more doorways; some we will open and others ignore. When we come to our final years and days, we will pass from this earth to heaven’s shore. Written in 2006. Published in "Illuminating Shadows:Community of Poets Collection, Vol. 5" Shadowpoetry 5 stanza Quatrain with 10 syllables per line, a-b-a-b rhyme scheme
