Midnight Rendezvous
The horse’s hoofs thundered over the ground of the meadow.
The strong black stallion carried it’s rider to the side
of the river where the brave, young man stopped to survey
all the land that separated him from his bride.

Sweet Altheda, your love makes me happy.
I crave but to see your young face.
Our promise to be one is forever.
Our love grows everyday and with each embrace.

Iagan’s eyes followed the blue water of the river
to the hill where there stood a lovely lass.
She was wrapped in a cloak she had treasured
while the love she showed no one could surpass.

Sweet Altheda, your love makes me happy.
I crave but to see your young face.
Our promise to be one is forever.
Our love grows everyday and with each embrace.

Her flight from the castle was unobstructed.
Her steps over the green grass was too easy she thought.
Soft clouds hid some of the moon’s light that she needed,
for a rendezvous that she hoped to not get caught.

Sweet Altheda, your love makes me happy.
I crave but to see your young face.
Our promise to be one is forever.
Our love grows everyday and with each embrace.

In her hand was a preplanned symbol.
A seed for the flower that would bloom in next spring,
Or a stone that was cold and lifeless
But still giving all the future hope she could bring.

Sweet Altheda, your love makes me happy.
I crave but to see your young face.
Our promise to be one is forever.
Our love grows everyday and with each embrace.

The clouds cleared to show her father’s men in hiding.
A fight ensued that showed the strength of each man’s sword.
Altheda was apprehended before she could go any further,
And release the small gift that her small hand stored.

Sweet Altheda, your love makes me happy.
I crave but to see your young face.
Our promise to be one is forever.
Our love grows everyday and with each embrace.

The hills never saw the return of the two lovers.
But if you listen carefully, you can hear thundering sound.
Altheda’s message went undelivered to the dying husband,
Whose corpse was never found.

Sweet Altheda, your love makes me happy.
I crave but to see your young face.
Our promise to be one is forever.
Our love grows everyday and with each embrace.
