Sweet the roses peep beneath the thorns The blazing sun darts a downward ray Far different landscapes in the sky Where birds forget to sing Terrors of the scene Haunting me My prison of shame Echoing in past memories Sorrows gloom-ed that parting day Long ago the farewell wished in vane Tumultuous cheering crowds in my mind Am I blind to the light through the trees Trying to find the springtime flowers Blooming brightly in my room All alone with memories Lonely the spinster Wondering why A refused marriage Before he went to war Returning home the new hero Marching away along the parade A day like lonely beacons in distress Will we meet to be in love again Seeing spring roses blooming The bouquet from a stranger Sharing a bed with me - “Judy wake up my darling No need for confused dreams I'm your husband who loves you Come what may every day of my life - Oh! Please don’t take that away from me?”
