Temperance
A Poem-A-Day Contest Entry

Escaping conduct rooted in depravity
demands commitment of the highest gravity.

Avert the eyes from crooked and corrupt,
lest egocentric conduct might erupt.

Maintain respectful distances from spite
that causes vengeful fires to ignite,

And hold yourself above temptation's taint
endeavoring to exercise restraint.

But apathy can never be condoned.
Don't seek to just let well enough alone.

Steer clear of fear that wedges souls apart.
It's wise to temper judgment with your heart.

Behavior is a chosen attitude,
and better served with moral rectitude.
