The fan whirled softly above their heads. It did little to ease the oppressive heat in the small chamber, but it did help waft the scents the small bouquets of flowers and herbs which eased the stench of close packed humanity and death that permeated the entire cells.

“What are you doing here?” Elbou asked the prisoner again, slicing into his naked torso with his dagger.

“Elbou, our orders are…” Garni started to say.

“I know what our orders are,” Elbou interrupted. “I’m improvising.”

Laitoca strode into the cell and raised an eyebrow slightly at the sight of the struggling prisoner. Garni blanched, such an expression on the normally impassive face of their leader made his blood run cold.

“I ordered the prisoner executed, yet here he is breathing,” Laitoca said.

“I thought to get some information first,” Elbou said.

“Meanwhile his friends close in on us, and he gets to part all the information you, undoubtedly, let slip.”

“I never said a word,” Elbou said.

Laitoca moved swiftly, her dragon-horn handled knife sank into the prisoner’s throat before most had realized she had moved. “See how easy that was?” she asked. “I want someone dead, they die,” she moved again, this time the blade was removed from the prisoner and plunged into Elbou.

“I do, my lord,” Garni said

“When I give an order, I expect it to be obeyed, immediately, without question, I don’t issue them just to hear my own voice.”

“As it should be, my lord,” Garni said.

“Then close up this cavern, it is compromised, we will meet in my chambers to discuss things further,” Laitoca said.

Garni smiled and pulled the lever that would send rocks into the chamber. The noise reverberated round the tunnel, hiding his chuckle, well she had said immediate.
