The Great Green Dragon
February 13th, 2012 Newsletter
Welcome to February 2012 New Year Newsletter. We're going to make this a casual month for the group. We're only running one contest for the month.
We'll be running some new events coming in the spring, we'll be offering more rewards, and we're going to simplify things, so please be patient for the next few months. We want to improve the reviewing in the group and encourage reviews with more rewards. So this will be an ongoing process this spring.
Month of January Contest
Winter Fantasy
Welcome to the Winter Fantasy Contest. For these cold winter nights, Yuuyake will be hosting a contest to help warm up your hearts and minds, or at least to warm up those fingers. There are three picture prompts to choose from. You pick one and write a short story. No poetry please. You have a 3,000 word count limit. Donations are highly appreciated as they help raise the amounts of the prizes. You will also receive a merit badge of any donations above 40,000 gps. Enter the Frozen Gates at your own peril. You may walk away with a huge prize.
Here is the link.
Events
Scavenger Hunt
There will be a scavenger hunt that will be held in March. This will be a fun activity for all to have a chance to earn prizes. We're currently looking for a few volunteers to help so if you're interested please email:

Projects
Project Nemesis
Our speculative fiction group is still on schedule to be released in April. It will encompass multiple groups who specialize in the speculative fiction genres. Think of it as your one stop shop for Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Horror and Supernatural Groups.
Each group associated will have their own page linked to the main page. The pages will list what each group offers and the current activities they are running that all members of the speculative fiction group are able to participate in.
Here is a demo page of what the imaging will most likely look like for the group.
Items of Notice
We have three items in regards to 2012 resolutions and advice for newer members of the WDC Community. Please feel free to browse through them if you like. I personally plan to take the information provided in them to create a inspiring and helpful page for all to read. If anyone has any suggestions they think would be important to add to the page I'm going to create, please send them in an email to:

Note from the leader of the group
I would like to remind all our members that we're a casual writing group, and in no way should any member feel obligated to do something they wish not to do. I've just recently had my 1st WDC Anniversary back on Jan. 30th, and if there is anything I have come to realize it's this.
No matter what response, participation or feedback you receive from others, we all have to realize everyone has their own priorities in WDC, and that should be focused mainly on your writing and the improvement of the craft. I've spent a considerable amount of time experimenting within WDC, and finding out what works and doesn't work in here has been a real challenge. If their is one great tip I can tell all for this year it's this.
Strive to mostly do things that in at least to some extent will have an impact on your writing. If you decide to create a group, make sure it serves a purpose to help you improve your writing. If you host contests make sure you design them so that the entries you receive are something you can learn from.
For instance, since I created TGDI, I've learned things that I would of never learned in any other group. I've figured out a lot of tricks of the trade so to speak for group related functions, that I would of never learned without creating TGDI. In regards to contest, even if you only receive a few entries. If you create a contest wisely, you should learn something in the process. An example was my NYRC Contest, even though it only received 3 entries, they were great entries, and I will use the advice on those pages for the remainder of this year.
My personal goals as being leader of TGDI is to offer others of the group who wish to learn the ins and outs of group related functions and visually appealing page displays an opportunity to learn what ever they can from what I've taught myself this past year.
So if any member of the group would like to help out and learn something in the process, all you have to do is let me know. TGDI is quite a unique group, all group pages are set to a lvl. 12 group edit access. This enables any member with a lvl. 12 rank to have total access to any group page.
I'm sure all of you can see what advantage that gives to the group and it's staff members The more members we can teach and have helping in the group, the stronger and more activities TGDI will be able to offer.
Sincerely,
careisman@xxxxx{[================>

The Great Green Dragon
January 7th, 2012 Newsletter
Welcome to January 2012 New Year Newsletter. We've got big plans for the new year. You should notice the TGDI Group page has gone under a few modifications. The dragons have been streamlined by being placed horizontally on the page, while removing one. We'll be redesigning other group pages during the next few months, so make sure you use the group page for the most up to date links.
Also if you scroll down the group page you will see a dropnote navigation system that now incorporates images for links. Make sure you familiarize yourself with them since all current activities are linked there.
To start off the new year we've stepped up the amount of contests sponsored by the group, the rest of this newsletter will explain and post the links to all the current activities in the group. First we'll introduce the TGDI Raffle, please purchase what you can for this. The prices are reasonable and remember the more funds we have in the group the bigger the rewards will be. So any amount of contributions will be appreciated.
Welcome to the Sandman Raffle
January is the month of dreams, from New Year's Resolutions, to Martin Luther King's famous "I have a Dream" speech. This raffle is to increase the amount of funds we have in our group bank. If you got a dream of winning a group contest or want to see more activities running every month, please take a moment of your time and go to the link below and purchase your tickets. All you have to do is buy a ticket for 100 gps and you may win 20% of the pot. The person who buys the most tickets at the end of the raffle gets a custom review package from Yuuyake.
Month of January Contests
NYRC
January's premier contest is NYRC (New Year's Resolution Contest)
Write your goals and plans for the year. We also want you to list a few tips and strategies that you think will help other writers. If you're a veteran WDC Member and want to write advice for newer members of the community, then submit your entry and win a merit badge and bonus GPs. Remember if only you had someone tell you the things you know now. It's your chance to give those tips to someone else.
Read the details of the contest in the link below.
Fable Fantasy
We're launching Fable Fantasy's after the holidays contest for the first month of the year. It's a contest for WDC Domination. You now can create the ultimate character and create their own WDC bio page, then you write about this character.
You can even incorporate you character into our virtual fantasy writing world known as TGDW (The Green Dragon World.) Choose from humans, dwarves, elves and orcs. If you're interested in participating in the TGDW Project, then why not start off the new year with a main character to write in our world.
Make sure you read Fable Fantasy's forum page below to get a better idea of what speculative fiction is.

Projects
TGDW (The Green Dragon World)
Midegar the world of the green dragons is now officially open for 2012. We're still in the developmental stages, looking for members to help create the backstory to the four regions of the continent of Argoth.
Here is the official main page that explains the basics and list all the links to check out.
We are also hosting a forum with additional info. So feel free to check out TGDW Harbor in the link below.
Important:
If you're interested in working in the project please post in the Harbor forum. Make sure you explain what races, regions or specific writing you're interested in doing. Think of posting in the Harbor as your help wanted ad for TGDW. SM's will look in the forum and send you an email once you post.
Postponements
2012 Library
We're delaying the new 2012 Library redesign. It will include all genre fiction categories, contests, and reference articles. Most likely it will be up and running in March. So bare with us, the coding for the page is crazy and definitely one of a kind. So disregard the library and the library dropbox until we release another newsletter that will let you know it's open.
TGDI Spotlight Review Forum
The new redesign of the review forum will be postponed for atleast the rest of this month, when it's finished it will be featured in the next newsletter. We're trying to simplify things and make it easier for members to actively review in the group.
TGDI Wants You!
Yes that's right, we're looking for a few more staff members. If you want a chance at running group related events and functions within the group, email:
careisman - TGDW ![View careisman's Portfolio. [Offline / Private]](http://images.Writing.Com/imgs/writing.com/writers/costumicons/ps-icon-knight-10.gif)
We're also looking for a few more judges for the multiple contests we've planned, members who enjoy reviewing and wish to run certain functions of the review side for the group.
Group Advertisements
This is a group for teens only, so if you're a teenager and would like to be in a group amongst your peers, this might be the group to join.
Group page is below.
Note from the leader of the group
I'm proud to announce that next month will be our group's 1 yr anniversary. Exactly on 2-15-2011 we were created, during the year of the group we've tried many unique things, some have worked while some still need work. It definitely has been a learning experience for myself and others of the staff.
I would like to thank every member of the group, for your patience and understanding of how difficult it can be to run a group. I especially want to thank yuuyake one of our co-leaders, without all her help we wouldn't have some of the great stuff hosted in the group.
She has put a lot of time and effort into the group and it's appreciated. She's currently running the TGDI Fantasy Writing Workshop. The next admissions will be available in March, so please take some time to look at her page and familiarize yourself with how it's setup. We'll send out a newsletter in March to notify you when you can sign up for the next class.
Here is the link.
I also want to acknowledge the help of all the rest of the staff and would like to congratulate our newest co-leader bertiebrite, I hope she gets accustom and enjoys the aspects of the group she's running.
One more staff member who I think deserves notice is the good Dr.Horrible, for without his idea the TGDW Project would never exist.
Special Request
I would like to ask one favor from the members for the new year. I would appreciate if you could take the time to submit an entry to the NYRC Contest. I'm personally going to read over all entries and after the contest is over, we're going to create a page with everyone's input. The plan is to make the page list inspiring goals for the new writing year and advice members of WDC will benefit from while writing in the WDC Community.
So please take a moment and read over the contest page and submit your entries by the end of the month. Let's show the WDC Community what TGDI really stands for, and that's helping others by providing them with pages that have great ideas.
Here is the link.
Final Note
I want to thank all who took the time in reading this lengthy newsletter and wish to give you a little reward for doing so. We've got some pretty big plans coming this spring. TGDI Staff is going to launch the Genesis Project. Now its still under tight wraps for the moment and not much can be fully revealed, but this much should give you a teaser of what is to come.
Imagine a macrocosm with many microcosms. Think of a group that will encompass multiple genres of writing and will offer insights to multiple groups of the WDC Community.
That's right folks, TGDI is going for global domination of the WDC Community in regards to speculative fiction, which encompasses Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Horror, Supernatural and other sub-genres. We're going to link our group TGDI into this project along with other groups of the WDC Community.
So if you find you enjoy not only writing and reading fantasy, but the other genres metnioned above, hold on to your seat till spring because this ain't Kansas anymore. We're going for quite a ride this year in WDC, so make sure you keep up to date with the Genesis Project, by reading the updates in the newsletters to come.
Sincerely,
careisman@xxxxx{[================>
