Proudly Presents

The Great Green Dragon

*Star*  February 13th, 2012 Newsletter  *Star*

Welcome to February 2012 New Year Newsletter. We're going to make this a casual month for the group. We're only running one contest for the month.

We'll be running some new events coming in the spring, we'll be offering more rewards, and we're going to simplify things, so please be patient for the next few months. We want to improve the reviewing in the group and encourage reviews with more rewards. So this will be an ongoing process this spring.

Month of January Contest

Winter Fantasy

Welcome to the Winter Fantasy Contest. For these cold winter nights, Yuuyake will be hosting a contest to help warm up your hearts and minds, or at least to warm up those fingers. There are three picture prompts to choose from. You pick one and write a short story. No poetry please. You have a 3,000 word count limit. Donations are highly appreciated as they help raise the amounts of the prizes. You will also receive a merit badge of any donations above 40,000 gps. Enter the Frozen Gates at your own peril. You may walk away with a huge prize.

Here is the link.

Projects

Project Nemesis

Our speculative fiction group is still on schedule to be released in April. It will encompass multiple groups who specialize in the speculative fiction genres. Think of it as your one stop shop for Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Horror and Supernatural Groups.

Each group associated will have their own page linked to the main page. The pages will list what each group offers and the current activities they are running that all members of the speculative fiction group are able to participate in.

Here is a demo page of what the imaging will most likely look like for the group.

Items of Notice

We have three items in regards to 2012 resolutions and advice for newer members of the WDC Community. Please feel free to browse through them if you like. I personally plan to take the information provided in them to create a inspiring and helpful page for all to read. If anyone has any suggestions they think would be important to add to the page I'm going to create, please send them in an email to:

Note from the leader of the group

I would like to remind all our members that we're a casual writing group, and in no way should any member feel obligated to do something they wish not to do. I've just recently had my 1st WDC Anniversary back on Jan. 30th, and if there is anything I have come to realize it's this.

No matter what response, participation or feedback you receive from others, we all have to realize everyone has their own priorities in WDC, and that should be focused mainly on your writing and the improvement of the craft. I've spent a considerable amount of time experimenting within WDC, and finding out what works and doesn't work in here has been a real challenge. If their is one great tip I can tell all for this year it's this.

Strive to mostly do things that in at least to some extent will have an impact on your writing. If you decide to create a group, make sure it serves a purpose to help you improve your writing. If you host contests make sure you design them so that the entries you receive are something you can learn from.

For instance, since I created TGDI, I've learned things that I would of never learned in any other group. I've figured out a lot of tricks of the trade so to speak for group related functions, that I would of never learned without creating TGDI. In regards to contest, even if you only receive a few entries. If you create a contest wisely, you should learn something in the process. An example was my NYRC Contest, even though it only received 3 entries, they were great entries, and I will use the advice on those pages for the remainder of this year.

My personal goals as being leader of TGDI is to offer others of the group who wish to learn the ins and outs of group related functions and visually appealing page displays an opportunity to learn what ever they can from what I've taught myself this past year.

So if any member of the group would like to help out and learn something in the process, all you have to do is let me know. TGDI is quite a unique group, all group pages are set to a lvl. 12 group edit access. This enables any member with a lvl. 12 rank to have total access to any group page.

I'm sure all of you can see what advantage that gives to the group and it's staff members The more members we can teach and have helping in the group, the stronger and more activities TGDI will be able to offer.

Sincerely,
