Youths Being Put in Their Place
A sad poem about the abuse of children by bullies in today's world.

With the economy in shambles here in the U.S. and elsewhere,
Adults around the world discuss matters like tax cuts, job creation, and tax breaks
With glum regularity, bashing their leaders for their lack of wisdom
And authority.  Yet, everyday, young Americans and children everywhere
Face cruel taunting and endless abuse in their schools
And lunch rooms.  These beleaguered and weary students are
Forced to endure injuries, pain, and insult,
And are constantly being put in unfit, lowly places
By evil, intolerant, nasty bullies.
By the time these kids have grown up,
They will have endured so much heartbreak, shame,
And cowardly hatred that they can finally take a deep breath,
Resuscitate their torn lives and grow accustomed to who they are
Yet again, as their true identities are re-taught
By the caring, compassionate citizens
Of these proud and sacred lands,
Whose peoples are struggling in today’s
Uncertain and anxious economy...
