Dan the Devil Man

That's who I was
in high school
that's what I answered to
(I can't remember why --
it doesn't matter)
Now, it would be
highly inappropriate.

Like everything else
in my past,
everything I did
or, chose not to do
has led me to where I am --
for that I am grateful.

I've moved on --
left my past behind.
It has no hold on me.
It doesn't identify me.
I'm no longer the man
I used to be.

Wrinkles have replaced
innocence.
Wisdom has replaced
impetuosity.
Loving unconditionally
has replaced
judging others.

With each new sun
I reinvent myself,
stronger and wiser
because of the day before.
I forget the past.
I grasp (with all my might)
the present --
the now.
Dan the Devil Man
is dead!
