I REMEMBER WHEN...
With old age comes early memories

I REMEMBER WHEN...

I remember when I looked forward to Spring,
searching for flowers, listening to birds sing.
I watched for rainbows that followed the rain,
basking in sunshine and happy once again.

I remember when I used to hear the shout
of children when they knew school was out.
Summer days filled with all kinds of fun,
happy to be carefree and alive in the sun.

I remember when I looked forward to Fall,
as the crispy air responded to nature's call.
Leaves turning color, brightening up the world,
wind picked them up, I watch as they swirled.

I remember when the first snowflakes came,
the world outside turned white once again.
Snowballs and snowmen were soon planned,
as Winter brought forth its cold on demand.

Yes, I remember the seasons, days gone by,
Fresh in my memory, with a tear in my eye.
Time hurries on now, it so hard to explain,
but the carefree enjoyment isn't the same.

There is too much rain, rivers rise too fast,
There is nothing left of happy days past.
Burning hot sun makes me wish for cold,
An air conditioner is worth its weight in gold.

Fall brings a chill that enters my old bones
and old folks like me stay in their homes.
I don't throw snowballs or make a snowman,
just try to survive the best way that I can.

Now I'm not really complaining, you see,
I am just remembering how it used to be.
It would sure be nice to be a child again,
reliving the times that I remember when.
