The Making of a Friend    (Prose Poetry)

Long, loud Iron Horse came to slow at the platform.
Two young women barely past teens were waiting.
For one, her first train ride with eyes of a child.
For the other, one more of many before.

Both newly married  held the sun on paper ribbon.
Life embracing each with open arms like a spring flower..
This was a work trip necessary for their jobs.
Merely a short voyage of discovery.

Morning sun ignited their conversation.
They worked together for  the past two months
But never reached inside their souls
To share their lives so openly, honestly.

Early conversation a peek into each family
Siblings and  parents all up for review.
Talk of  weddings, homes, and changes,
As a result of their coming of age.

Chattering about the prospect of children
The topic exploded like an open flame.
Neither was ready for that unknown future.
Both had fears co-founded by similar roots.

A unique flower planted that early morning.
A friendship was born and nourished.
Two girls with common thread to weave their future
The days ahead looked upon with excitement.

Not because of new marriages and life mates,
They now had a mirror image to move ahead.
A friend who could listen without judgment
Someone to count on to understand.

Two people with similar sense of laughter.
Two people with common sense of right and wrong.
Two people each needing a friend
When the ride ended, A friendship had begun.
