The dark of night betrays me; it does not fulfill its purpose
The shadows and the silence should be lulling me to sleep But there is nothing further from me at this moment For I cannot drown out the silence that allows my mind to roam Nor can I extinguish the stars that the darkness now reveals How could I sleep through the beauty of this night? The sky has never held as many stars as it does tonight And has never stirred my spirit the way it does here and now So as my mind dances between those lights I wonder I sit back and think on those things most meaningful They come as beautiful dreams, but are distant as the stars And as they play with my emotions I stay restlessly awake So the night has not fulfilled its duty to my mind and spirit For never once did I drift off to a place of rest or of peace But I find in this moment that it did not betray me after all Instead it has taken the time to show me its grandeur Indeed, sky and stars, and the shadows have danced for me Somehow they have refreshed and renewed my soul tonight
