of morning
Sunrise
burns the mist
floating above
the lake

fishermen's boats
ripple
the otherwise mirrored
surface of the water --
interrupt
the conversations
of the geese
paddling
in circles

Bang!...Bang!...Bang!
three shotgun blasts
in the distance --
(geese sit quiet)
