Where did I go (I wondered) was a moment though lifetimes before - in some other place I was waiting quietly outside your door. Heard you stirring from slumber (did I imagine) you whispered my name. Tempted by longing to answer - for want of a feeling (the same). I fight with the urge to awake you - (could be you weren’t even there). Would shadows shift in my bedroom (back home) and I of you unaware. Remembered a place of together – forever the balm of my sleep. Conditions of life may assail me - yet these are the treasures I keep. Dare I return to my pillow and find this all was a dream - memories cling to the traces of love and I walk the night in between. Morning will come to remind me - existence I cannot deny. Yet I wonder of touch and remember (sometimes) forgotten this night of goodbye.
