He opened his eyes. "I can see, Doc! I can see!" Tears of joy blurred, then darkened his vision. What? A faint voice called his name. "Mister Carstens? Easy! You're still groggy from the anesthetic." His eyes opened. Points of light flashed randomly in the nothingness. "I'm sorry. The optical nerve damage was too severe."
