October Night
A wandering gent's experience one cold October night.

October Night -

On a late October Night,
While rushing to my house so warm,
I saw a most peculiar sight,
Flying through the Autumn storm;
Present but without a form.

A spectre raced among the clouds,
(Much to my disbelieving eye),
Wrapped around in wispy shrouds,
That trailed behind him in the sky.
Rapt, I watched him pass me by.

But then he dropped down to the ground,
Alas, I had no chance to flee.
He drifted near without a sound,
But with a finger, beckoned me;
Motioning so ghoulishly.

For reasons that remain unclear,
I paused instead of taking flight,
But as the wraith drew ever near,
My blood ran colder than the night;
Chilled by sheer and utter fright.

For as he came he reached behind,
I should have run but stayed instead.
And for this folly, risked my mind-
Soon overcome by mortal dread;
Within his hands he held a head.

The horror I was forced to see,
While fear had frozen me in place,
Convinced me it was time to flee,
For I can swear by God's good grace -
Upon this head was my own face.

Then something filtered through my ears -
A voice like nothing heard by man,
A message silenced through the years,
Hinting at the devil's plan.
And fearing such, I broke and ran.

Now on a late October Night,
I never leave my house so warm.
Instead, I'm hidden out of sight,
From things that lurk within the storm.
Present but without a form.
