Tears from Heaven-Her Pain

He leaned against my shoulder and whispered in my ear,
The silent words he spoke to me brought forth a bitter tear.

Do not weep my precious one our love will never die,
But I must go to meet my fate and cannot watch you cry.

I turned to him with trembling hands and thoughts as dark as night,
The love I saw surrounded him and wiped away my fright.

How can life continue on without his tender kiss,
His gentle smile and dreamy eyes I shall always miss.

My life for his I prayed to God with a shudder in my heart,
For in our sacred marriage vows we were never meant to part.

I knew the risk that he would take when he went off to war,
But the loss I feel for him will last forever more.

As he caressed my swollen eyes I heard him gently weep,
For God had swept him in His arms to rest in final sleep.

Good by my heart, my life, my friend, my true and only love,
And I watched in silent agony the teardrops from above.
