Shadows on the Trail
Just pick me up and dust me off, and slap me on the back, I don’t want help, I don’t need love, there’s nothing that I lack. A carefree day, a place to roam, a horse between my thighs, That’s all I need, that’s all I want, don’t need your cryin’ eyes. Loving you and losing you, has thrown me way off track, So pick me up and dust me off, and slap me on the back. No sad songs in memory, of the love I found and lost, No guilty smiles and fancy wiles, I can’t afford the cost. Open range with sage and sand, and gentle blowing wind, The stars that shine, the lonely hills, that’s all I need my friend. All I have and all I need, there’s nothing I don’t lack, So pick me up and dust me off, and slap me on the back. There ain’t no angels crying, that sad and lonesome tune, That’s just a pack of mangy wolves, a howling at the moon. It’s your choice, you made your bed, you’re lying by his side, So now it’s time for me and horse, to take that silent ride. So pick me up and dust me off, and slap me on the rear, I don’t want help, I don’t need love, I don’t need empty cheer.
