Two Chances Not many people can say they had two chances; two sets of parents involved in their life. I could have turned out so different. To one set of parents I’d say: “All is forgiven.” You brought me into this world; two young adults unprepared for what love and marriage brings. One of you was selfish and self-centered; the other loving, giving and forgiving. I spent a lifetime trying to understand and wondering how it might have been had we stayed a family. To the other, I’d say, “Thank you.” You took me in when I needed someone. You gave me everything I needed. I never knew married adults sometimes had verbal fights until I became married myself. With your guidance, I became a responsible adult capable of taking care of my own family. To all of you I’d say, “I used the combined knowledge I’ve gained from you to make my own choices. I followed my heart and tried to give my children what I didn’t have from the one family and what I had from the other. I’ve had a good and happy life and you can turn lose of the guilt and worry. There is enough room in my heart to love you all.” This is vague because it was hard to write. Only the mothers in my life remain living today. Both of them wonder if they did the right thing. I think they did.
