                                  Ghazal 351


Persian:  Aey ba chashm e to khumaar o khaab hum
              Dar lab e to angbeen jullaab hum
Urdu:      Chashm maen masti bhee hay aur khab bhee
              Hay laboun maen angbeen e naab bhee

English:=== Look at those drunken, dreamy eyes
                  Oh, how they sooth and hypnotize
                                            -

Persian:  Zulf e mushkeenat keh dil duzdad dar o
              Hast mushkil taab chun baitaab hum
Urdu:      Dil jo band e gaisoo e mushkeen maen hay
              Mutmaain rehta hay wo, baitaab bhee

English:=== And look at the curly raven hair
                  And all those hearts in its deadly snare
                                            -

Persian:  Dar khayaal e roo o mooyat her shabay
              Taalib e shab meekunam mehtaab hum
Urdu:      Zulf kuchh aisi pareeshaan rukh pay hay
              Abr bhee hay, shab bhee hay, mehtaab bhee

English:=== And how that face that the tresses shroud
                  Looks like the moon covered with a cloud

Persian:  Bus keh khaar ast aab e chashmam paish e to
              Gharq e aabam bar darat, bai aab hum
Urdu:      Wasl ki hasrat maen deeda raat din
              Gharq bhee hay aab maen, bai aab bhee

                  When in her absence I cry and cry

Persian:  Chand chun bai rehmataan khahaem kusht
              Mehray aakhir meekunad qassaab hum
Urdu:      Roaz o shab zibheh na ker ushshaaq ko
              Rehm kerta hay kabhee qassaab bhee

                  Oh, how it suffers her cruelty

Persian:  Deen e KHUSRO been keh abroo o rukhat
              Shud dilash butkhhana o mehraab hum
Urdu        Roo e but ki ker parastish KHUSRAWA
              Hay wahaan aatish bhee aur mehtaab bhee
