                                      Ghazal 355


Persian:  Az turra e to juz reh e sauda nayaaftam
              Waz ghamza e to juz dar e ghaugha nayaaftam
Urdu:      Gaisoo maen hum ba juz reh e sauda na pa sakay
              Ghamzay maen bhee ba juz dar e ghaugha na pa sakay

English:=== In the twists and turns of her curly hair
                  Wherever you look, there is a snare
                                              -

Persian:  Dar zulf e to shudam keh ba jooyam nishaan e dil
              Khud ra zay dast daadam o dil ra nayaaftam
Urdu:      Apnay dil e hazeen ko kham e paech e zulf maen
              Kertay rahay talaash, kisi ja na pa sakay

English:=== And for my heart when I went to look
                  There I found it caught on a hook
                                              -

Persian:  Ta durdi e gham e to ba kaam e dilam raseed
              Dar deeda juz sarashk e musaffa nayaaftam
Urdu:      Chakhhkhha naheen tha durd e alam dil nay jab talak
              Aankhhoun maen juz sarashk e musaffa na pa sakay

English:=== And when I saw it hanging there
                  My pain and sorrow I could not bear
                                              -

Persian:  Bar kaam e mun her aan cheh zay jaam e labat raseed
              Az jaam e Khizr o kaam e Maseeha nayaaftam
Urdu:      Jo zaaiqa mila tha hamaen jaam e lab say, wo
              Az jaam e Khizr o kaam e Maseeha na pa sakay

English:=== But then I remembered her luscious lip
                  And the honey from it I used to sip
                                              -

Persian:  SULTAANI az naseem e wisaal e to behramand
              Mun juz samoom e hijr dar aaza nayaaftam
Urdu:      SULTAANI hum khayaal e naseem e wisaal maen
              Kuchh juz samoom e hijr dar aaza na pa sakay

English:=== So there was a time when she was mine
                  But, KHUSRO, now I can only pine
