I had to create a character who didn't do the right thing or have a happy ending...
She was sitting on the porch, making a valiant attempt to figure out how to fix her mistake. She had met someone, well hooked up with him...one of Kyle's work buddies. It wasn't supposed to happen like this. He would never understand. He would never forgive her. "How could I be so stupid?" she thought.

She hadn't meant to let things get so out of hand, but the new guy, Kevin, was really seductive in a laid back, come and get me kind of way. A couple of drinks later, she did. Much to her dismay. Kyle's car pulled into the driveway and she got up, nervously wiping her sweaty palms on her jeans. "Hey, babe," she called as he got out of the car, "How was the conference?"

"I've been to better," he said slowly, "Got a text last night from your new friend Kevin."

"Oh."

"Want to tell me what the hell is going on? Or should I ask Kevin? He sent pictures, by the way."

"Oh," she felt her stomach tighten with fear.

"I'm waiting, Stace."

"I messed up. I..."

"You messed up," he paused, his face a hard mask, "Stace, you were naked with the guy. That's so far beyond messed up it's not even funny. You need to leave. Now."

She swallowed and nodded silently before walking to the door and picking up the suitcase she had packed just in case. "I'm sorry," she said as she walked past him on the way to her car, nearly reaching it before the tears that had been threatening since she arrived home this morning began to spill out.

She looked back, hoping that he would still be there, giving her hope. The door slammed shut and he was gone. She climbed into her car and drove away slowly.
