ANNIE BEAN CLEANS HER ROOM
“Hi” my name is Annie Bean Sparrow One day I wondered why my name was Annie Bean Not, Sally Sue or Betty Jean. Hummm…. Mama said with a great big smile It’s time to tell you about the secret mile. Mama told me of, an old white bearded man. He looked into her eyes while he touched her hand. He whispered softly some words of advice Saying each star given comes from being nice. Mama admitted she didn’t understand but magic happened when he touched her hand. The white bearded man said, that I should never be mean! He Told Mama to call me, Annie Bean. He told Mama she must teach me to believe because each vine is strengthened with each mile received. Smiles turn into stars and I should stack them high, every star given becomes a roadway to the sky. Ohhhh… THAT’S why Mama told me my heart is filled with smiles? Soooo now…Everyone I give away I grow another mile. NOW… I see, that’s why I can’t be mean, And that’s why Mama called me Annie Bean. But sometimes I fight with my brother, he’s three, Yikes... He messes my room and drives me crazy” He gets into my pencils and writes here and there I want to punch him in the, you know where. But I reach in my heart, and pull out a smile. It’s hard to do, but, I’ll grow another mile. So you see, that’s why I can’t be mean; because my name is Annie Bean. Mama got mad one day for a while¬, because all my clothes were tossed in a pile. ……. “ANNIE BEAN!” now….mama did shout, “Come clean up your room…or you’ll be in time out.” I’m coming Mama…. I’ll be right there, I’ll clean up my room, “Ta Da….Have no Fear.” My shirt and my pants Wham…In the hamper they go. My pink poke-a-dot undies, Shush….. No one can know. I’ll toss in a smile and watch it grow. Because I can’t be mean that’s why my name is Annie Bean. My clothes are hung up My shoes on the rack My toys in their place My books are all stacked. Mama will be proud I’ve done what she said. I even cleaned up, under my bed. I found in my heart some extra smiles, now I will grow not one, but two miles. So you see, I can’t be mean, that’s why my name is Annie Bean. My sack is filled with smiles, each one I pull out turning smile into stars while vines begin to sprout. Each star I step on, the closer I’ll be to all that I dreamed of, and all that awaits me I dream of a land that is far in the sky filled with all of my friends and chocolate butterflies! YUCK…Mama wants broccoli and collard greens cauliflower, asparagus, even pinto beans. Mama tells me veggies are healthy for me I know she’s right. But I love the land of candy! I guess I should listen to mama, that’s true But shush…this is one smile I just cannot do. ¬riding on peppermint boats on creamy chocolate lakes Surrounded with flowers bursting, with golden shimming flakes. Trees grow tall, filled with gumball drops jumping on cloud of cotton candy that never stops I soar over rainbows of colored jelly beans bushes of cookie dough with rivers of ice cream. Mountains of white chocolate nuts that lead to the sky swinging on ropes of licorice, while catching fireflies. I like to sing with the birds and dance in the breeze, I want to buzz..buzz..buzz..like honey bees. Hopping on Cupcakes with sprinkle’s between my toes, Oh what will mama think, I’ve messed up my clothes! I’ll just bring home some candy so mama can see A world of lost goodies, won’t she be so proud of me! “It takes many stars to reach your sky of dreams, but when you see the other side, You’ll be happy you weren’t mean.” Keep on giving out smiles and don’t be mean. you can be like me, Annie Bean!
