New Years Resolution

The first day of the new year and Claudia was ready for it to be over. How could she have made such a ridiculus resolution. Already, she was ready to call it quits.

"I don't know how I let you talk me into this Cam."

"It gets easier with time. Trust me. Now come on...take the first step."

Claudia walked to the front of the room and turned to face the audience. They waited for her to speak, watching her. Claudia knew they were just like her. She had listened to their stories of addiction. How they had found their way to this group. Some had been free of their addiction for a long time. Others were new, just as she was. One had even confessed to falling during the New Years celebration. He hadn't been ridiculed. Instead, they had offered him forgiveness and understanding.

"Go on," Cam mouthed.

Clearing her throat, Claudia took a deep breath and began. "My name is Claudia. I am a blood addict."

"Welcome Claudia," echoed the others, all vampires like herself.

"I don't know if I can do this or not. Cam says I can. It hurts. My throat burns,
I am so hungry."

"Here, here," a voice called out in support.

Claudia shook her head. She couldn't believe she was doing this. "I guess I blame Twilight. We're vampires. We're supposed to be scary. But now everyone thinks we are romantic and sparkly. And damn it, I like sparkle. I want to sparkle."

Someone laughed.

Claudia laughed too. "So maybe I won't ever sparkle. But I will stop eating people. At least for today. I can't promise about tomorrow. But I'm going to try."
