Compassion Genuine compassion is based not on our own projections and expectations, but rather on the rights of the other: irrespective of whether another person is a close friend or an enemy, as long as that person wishes for peace and happiness and wishes to overcome suffering, then on that basis we develop genuine concern for his or her problem. This is genuine compassion: the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet i have embarked on a journey, walked many miles, followed countless false trails and backtracked; now, i am navigating the true path. my destination, a speck on the horizon with many pitfalls along the way. i will be traveling for a lifetime unable to complete my journey i drop my burdens, fall to the burning sand (desperation in mind). i rip open my chest and bare my heart; it is for the taking. as I do this the whole world opens. i feel a strong connection to every living person. i am no longer on a journey, but, in the present moment of compassion, i feel whole.
