Flashes -
The keenest, sharpest, Master Sleuth Will never find my missing youth. Yet it returns in bits and pieces, That my brain sometimes releases. When bright and early summer morn Brings the sun whose light adorns The tops of trees with golden crowns As its warmth comes beaming down. Or when the south wind's gentle grace Softly blows across my face. Inciting feelings I can't gauge; Memories of a younger age. The crunch of snow beneath my feet, Reminds me of a time so sweet, Fabled frolic in the frost, A simple glimpse; The rest is lost. And when I'm struck by scents of spring, I'm anxious for the thoughts they bring. Of new life wrought from melting snow, Adventures sought - so long ago. Forever gone these things must be, But for a foggy memory, Of words unsaid and songs unsung, Locked in place, when I was young.
