Winter's First Breath An icy wind bemoans across the meadow Fall leaves scatter in a magnificent potpourri Transforming the colors in transition The natural cycle’s final torrent Browns, yellows, greens all become bare As the first signs unveil of the dreaded winter Cascading through the air, effortless Taking the power from the autumn sheriff Winter arrives, conquering the ennui Displaying its might, playing the enforcer Autumn gives in, sacrificing its changing colors Once again the cycle dictates it goes dormant Battering mercilessly the trees only garb Naked the tree, confronts its fear The leaves, its clothing, blown everywhere It must survive the cold, survive its phobia Sadly, the tree stands alone, patient Barren until the sun once again brings warmth
