I gaze at the picture In the palm of my hand 'Tis my dear great great uncle Don't he look grand? But look- do you notice The scar on his face Now what could have happened That line to trace? I'll tell you the story, Starting right now When uncle went out To milk the cow Now the cow was unruly And knocked over the pail So Uncle decided The cow was for sale He led her to town To look for a buyer But none could be found Which raised Uncle's ire. “You old beast!” he exclaimed And gave her a slap But she didn't move Uncle thought he would snap Two young boys were watching They thought it was fun But Uncle despaired Of getting this done “We'll help you!”they cried “Just give us some stones.” So Uncle stepped back To watch, with a groan. Jack hurled the stone, But missed the cow It gashed Uncle's cheek And uncle roared “Ow!” He bellowed at Jack “Just what did you do?” The cow turned her head And softly said “Moo.” Written for the Writer's Cramp contest
