Holy Crap! It worked?

When my wife and I found out we were going to be parents, we immediately started buying baby books. You know the ones I mean: Guides for expectant parents, books that described the baby’s development from conception to birth in way-too-graphic detail. Books that detailed everything that could go wrong, which scared the living dog-doo out of and made it almost impossible to think of anything else. We bought books on early childhood development, signed up for online baby magazines and we get a newsletter in the mail from a baby food producer; If it’s a parenting guide of any kind, we’ve got it. And we’re still collecting.

Although much of the information is useful, the one thing these sources have in common is that they are mostly oriented toward mothers and motherhood. Except for what seems to be nothing more than honorable mentions, dads have been given little attention in comparison. This lack of what I’m going to call “acknowledgement” prompted me to start writing. In the mean time I’ve discovered several fatherhood sites, blogs and guides online that I'll probably reference often. And though the illusion of being a pioneer of sorts has been shattered,I figure one more can’t hurt. We’ve still a lot catching up to do.

So that there are no false expectations however, I should clarify that I’m not a doctor, I don’t play one on TV nor am I an expert of any kind. What I am is simply a new, first-time dad sharing my experiences and seeking other points of view.

That being said, welcome to The DC.
