take the stamp but leave the letter take my life – let memories lie burn my hair but save the ribbon tied to every dream gone by a worthless check - you can have the money but leave the stones along the gate save the barn but take the whiskey longing born of summer fate what of me is worth the keeping I’ll decide what makes the grade simple truths cannot be stolen bitter luck of choices made turn the lights and break the lantern was not for me its failing light take the dress but spare the denim a pair of blues – to fit just right keep my rings - keep my locket but leave the place where kisses fell take of all – the smallest treasure what matters most – you couldn’t tell take the stamp but leave the letter take my life – let memories lie
