“I’m not angry,” Moonhawk said, tossing the towel she had been using to dry her hands down with such force it bounced from the chair and landed a few feet away.
“Of course not,” Sunhawk said. “Anger would mean I care, I don’t. If that idiot is fool enough to get himself taken prisoner, then that is his problem.” “Of course it is,” Sunhawk agreed. Moonhawk snorted, slammed the door to her room and lay down on the feather mattress. Her thoughts went, unbidden, to their friend who was even now sleeping on something so much firmer…if he was allowed to sleep at all. She turned to her side, then back again. She just couldn’t get comfortable. With a curse that would have made a sailor blush, she dressed and knocked on her brother’s door. “You have a plan?” he asked. He was still fully dressed, though in dark clothing now; his bed hadn’t been touched. “I’m only doing this because he was stupid enough to take the blame for my actions,” Moonhawk said. “I don’t care why,” Sunhawk said. Moonhawk ignored him, “I go in as a woman of …” “No, you could never pull that off, they have to be at least polite,” Sunhawk said. “Fine, I’ll sneak in like a thief, find him and lead him out.” “We will,” “There is no we.” “There is now, I doubt diplomacy will work here, I know my sword will,” Sunhawk said, his gaze unwavering. “I can’t look after you, him and me in there…” “I don’t need it,” Sunhawk said. For the first time in his life he understood what his twin saw in this, he could make a difference, even if it was only for a friend. “Then we shall play,” Moonhawk said, heading for the door.
