Say No to Soda, Yes to Healthy Drinks

By Dennis Thompson

Medically reviewed by Pat F. Bass III, MD, MPH

Summary by Leslie Grable

You can find soda almost anywhere now days. There are numerous different brands and flavors. But sodas can be very harmful to your body. It’s full of calories and sugar. Soda can lead to obesity, type 2 diabetes, prevent weight loss, and even increase your appetite. Drinking soda can cause complications like chronic kidney disease, development of metabolic syndrome, and fatty liver. The acid in soda can also cause cavities and tooth decay.

There aren't any benefits to drinking soda because they have no nutritional value. Choose healthy drinks instead. They have vitamins and minerals that are good for your body. Water is the ultimate healthy drink; it re-hydrates you without the extra calories. Even add fresh fruit slices for flavor. Milk and tea are also great alternatives to sugar-filled sodas. Choose healthy drinks over soda; your body will thank you.
