SPIRITUAL DEPRIVATION
by David A Johnson

There's a lot I could tell you
about the root of my fate,
in fact I've tried to share it
but yet found one too relate.

I've attended many congregations
searching for any who agree,
but what I discovered as I listened
was talk of a God they didn't see.

Considering maybe they know better
I built the nerve to ask a question,
but found that none would answer
as if I'd threatened their protection.

I found none sought anymore than
what they'd learned and believed,
and knew no matter what I'd say,
it just wouldn't be received.

Because I care for these people
and know they rest in Christ,
it is up to us who are awakened
to learn more than act nice.

While many wait upon a Christ
to literally appear beneath the clouds,
isn't more likely through clouds of mind
rather than impossible tales of mouths.

They rely on mans interpretations
which are but a shadow at best.
But from Christ comes a sober mind
which without we can't find rest.

So the tree remains above us
love and forgiveness unconfirmed,
yet the tree of life bares many figs
ripe and ready to be discerned.

Truly his gift was given by love
but if trusting our own to see,
it has and shall always fall short,
until we learn he holds the key.

So may the way be made clear
and no more lie in mystery,
that by this eternal blessing
comes an end to misery.
