Hope is to dream, to imagine, and to find meanings where others think there are none.
Racism, such an ugly word, insidiously leaks through our democracy causing ignorance to block hope for so many. Personally, I think racism probably started with the Neanderthal man 50,000 to 75,000 years ago by segregating according to different skin colors, facial and body types; much like today. If you read Clan of the Cave Bear, it gives you an idea of how the modern Neanderthals (lighter pigmentation) were not accepted by the darker sect and vice versa. They were different cultures, most manifesting distinct lifestyles and opportunities (or lack of such) for growth, advancement, fulfillment and happiness, but race? I think racism is a variant of collectivism, the doctrine that the individual is valueless unless he is an appendage of a group. A person's ‘race’ is an evaluation based on nonessential attributes, such as facial/physical features and pigmentation. Historically, racism has always risen or fallen with the rise or fall of collectivism. Do you think Hitler could have set out to destroy the Jews all by himself? No, he told the people what they wanted to hear. They were a collective group of narcissists who thought themselves superior to the rest of the world. Were they racist? Yes, but they were also extremely ignorant. If anyone insists that racism is valid, that the content of one’s mind is frozen in place by the circumstances of his birth and his life was predetermined by his ancestors, then they are denying themselves. If a human being, regardless of color, features or culture has all the rights and privileges due him under the laws of the Constitution, then we need not worry about groups. There are only individual minds and individual achievements, and culture is the sum of intellectual achievements of individual human beings. A genius is a genius regardless of the number of morons who belong to the same race – and a moron is a moron regardless of the number of geniuses who share his racial origin. Therefore, the theory that human beings with a potentially superior brain power being greater among members of a certain race is irrelevant to the judgment of the individual. I’ve always thought that racism correlates well with ignorance. When people are desperate, scared, and living in the dark, they scapegoat other people and blame them for their deficiencies. We can not judge from high aloft in clouds looking from eternity to eternity to determine who started it. Being different is good. We all need to celebrate diversity. Just because a person looks different on the outside, doesn’t change the way they are on the inside. Everyone brings something to the table. Can you imagine swimming in the same pond with the same people forever? How in the world would you ever learn anything new? Well, if you are a racist, that’s exactly what you’re doing; swimming with the same old people who are afraid to expand their territory. All they know how to do is spread arrant bullshit. It's time we changed the world in our brief time span. We need to look beyond a person's outer appearance, and look at the clothing that their language wears. Word Count:537 I reviewed "Sixty Year-Old Look At Depressing Poem" and sent you 1000 gps. I hope I did this right.
