Mud, or something like it,
and fire, or something like it, make glass, or something like it, Or not. Stone, perhaps, or brick, from heat, perhaps, or sun, and clay, perhaps, or sand, but then, what else is mud? Something dirty, something wet, add something hot, something dry, and forth from thence comes something hard, something fragile, something like it. But it is so much more, so many more things, so many more colors and shapes and lives, to shape our life around. The small things: a cup, a bowl, a spoon. The big things: a statement, a feeling, art. Or are those backwards? It's something like that. When a bowl has more feeling than a sculpture, a pitcher more technique than a vase, a plate more patience than it all; where lies the line 'tween art and craft, 'tween fine and sturdy, 'tween form and function? When you ask yourself these questions, you know, you feel, you love, you play, with mud, or something like it.
