Deceitful Deadbeat
Procreating with the man you love who turns out to be a deadbeat.

You make love to me on the regular
Everything about me is spectacular
You call and text me on the daily
You have even met my family
At night you whisper to me sweet nothings
To you, I feel like I mean something
No we're not married but we're together
Our love is strong, meant to last forever
Love so strong that it planted a seed
Promising to be there in my time of need
But you wasn't; you went ghost
Right when we needed you the most
It hurt me when you left us alone
And the pregnancy I dealt with all on my own
Whether you were scared or not, we were a team
Being together as a family was my dream
A dream not meant to come true
Because I shouldn't have believed in you
No one to rub my swollen feet
No one to help me from my seat
No one to massage my shoulders so tense
No one to get me foods that didn't make sense
Cramping at home not knowing I was in labor
Grateful for my friend's presence that worked in my favor
Your absence was duly noted as I gave birth to her
A beautiful being with a soul so pure
As she grew up, you stayed away
Missing her milestones much to my dismay
Her first tooth, her first words
Her first steps, her first awards
You seldom call, you never come by
You never even really try
To be involved, to pretend that you care
As if there were no good times we shared
You had a job but didn't want to provide
So I had to put child support in your life
Soon after you decided to quit
You couldn't handle the financial hit
One day, when your daughter looks at you with eyes so sad
I hope you can explain why you chose to be a deadbeat dad.
