Walk on Water Pt. 5

I knocked on the door, and Genesis answered.

“Kaige are you okay?”

“Yeah, not so much.” I said passing out falling forward and landing in Genesis’ arms.

When I woke up it was sunny outside. It’s Christmas Eve. I looked around and saw Vlad on a chair his face in his hands, and Genesis was pacing around my living room. I was obviously lying down on the couch.

“What the fuck happened?” I said and Vlad looked up. He was a mess, it looked like he’s been crying for days. It looks like he’s just been stressed out about what I put him through. Genesis turned and looked at me.

“You haven’t had one of those moments anytime have you?” Genesis asked as Vlad just stared, this is the time I wish I could read minds. Genesis chuckled a little bit.

“No not since I called to go to the hospital.” I said, and out of the corner of my eye I saw Vlad’s eyes get wider.

Then Genesis went back to pacing. And when I looked at Vlad, he was just so torn up that I went over to him and hugged him. Once I backed up from my hug he looked up at me pleadingly and said, “I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you. But I now realize I don’t think I should be with you.”

Now that makes me want to rip my heart out. That and it reminds me of Twilight shit. I walked away from Vlad and headed up stairs, to change and well you’ll find out. I changed into my favorite Alesana shirt, and then just chilled on my bed for a little bit, not worrying about how I already locked my door. I pulled out my iPod and started listening to Discovering the Waterfront by Silverstein. I just had to stop and chill out alone since too much drama has been going on. I also texted Damian saying that Genesis and Vlad, guy with blue hair, were over so don’t freak out. Next thing someone was pounding on my door.

“Kaige who the fuck is Damian!” Vlad shouted pounding on my door.

“Wow Vlad never thought you where the jealous type!” I shouted back at him and turned my music up a little louder until I heard him slamming against my door. And I had a feeling Genesis is going to join him. I got up and headed for my window, I quickly opened it as quick as I could’ve and quickly ran up onto the roof right when I heard the door getting slammed a little more open.

Now where do I go? I quickly looked around and then looked into my back yard. There was a giant pile of snow which meant it might turn into a snowman, or a nice landing pad. I ran off of my roof and jumped and landed right into the pile of snow. I got up quickly and ran to the garage and revved up the engine of my snowmobile and sent it flying out of the driveway and sneaked my way into my neighbor’s backyard making sure I didn’t leave any footprints leading to the fence between our yards, and then ran to the woods. I don’t know why I was running I was just scared since I’ve never seen Vlad mad. I was balling my eyes out when I was running. I ran out of the other side of the woods ignoring my phone as it frantically went off with people texting and calling me. After a bit of running I ran into Officer Norton.

“Where are you going now, Kaige?” He said holding me tightly by my arms.

“I need to just get away from…from…” I said trailing off on what to tell him.

“From what god dammit!” Officer Norton was getting mad with me.

“I need to get away from my friends!” I shouted at him then punched him in the gut and started running away now into town, and now Norton is probably gonna want my head. I kept running and I didn’t really care if people stared. I didn’t know any of them, so I didn’t care, I just ran since I didn’t want to be here. I made it to the central fountain in the town. That’s when I thought I should take a break. I sat on the edge of the now iced over fountain and held my knees close to me. I looked at the beautiful statue in the middle. I sighed when someone said my name.

“Kaige? Kaige is that you?” I turned around and saw the teacher from school, she looked nice dressed in her outdoor winter wear.

“Oh Miss…uh…” I said since I really didn’t know her name.

“It’s Peasem. And what are you doing out here in the cold, crying. Is something wrong?” Mrs. Peasem said.

“It’s just that I’ve been having some weird problems and I just wish my mom was back or something back to normal since all Hell has broken lose onto my life.” I said looking at her when she took a handkerchief and wiped the tears of my face.

“Listen Kaige I don’t know what kind of problems you have, but whenever I have a problem I try to face it otherwise I would either ask for help or relax somewhere alone and just clear my mind and find a solution.” She said with a smile on her face and put the handkerchief in her sleeve. “Hopefully that’ll help you with whatever you’re going through. I hope to see you again in school after break, actually learning. And that Vlad looks like a fine young man.” She said then walked away back toward her husband.

As soon as she left I slapped my palm on my forehead, but after that I heard sirens which meant Norton’s reinforcements have arrived and it’s my cue to leave. I jumped up really quickly and started running towards the opposite direction of my house so that I won’t run into Vlad or Genesis, or anyone for that matter. I ran into the bookstore and asked Sal if I could chill out here for a while.

“Yeah sure go and use the employee lounge.” She said with a smile handing me her spare key.

“And if two guys come in here one with reddish brown hair or blue hair tell them you haven’t seen me, and same thing if the cops come. Accidently punched one in the stomach trying to get away from the two guys.” I said taking the key and she knew I would explain later.

I quickly ran to the employee lounge where thankfully no one was in since it was Christmas Eve and all. Sal works today to get extra money, so that she has some to spend after all the bills and stuff. I just chilled for a little bit then looked at my phone part of it was Damian asking what the hell was going on and why are all of the cops after me, that’s also what my mom asked. I texted my mom saying that a cop scared the shit out of me and I punched him on accident and then ran. Hopefully she’ll buy it. The others were Vlad trying to apologize and Genesis trying to find out where I am so we could talk through this or some shit. I deleted everything and just calmed down.

“Yeah I can have you guys take a look around, but not the employee lounge cause well you know employees only.” I heard Sal shout and once I heard two pairs of footsteps I was worried but I just calmed down and thought about video games since there are a lot of people who work here who love video games. Then Sal texted me saying it was the two guys I mentioned. Since they can’t get in I decided to take a nap, so I walked to their couch and laid down when someone tried to open the lounge door, I sprang up and stared at the door starting to get up and walking slowly towards the window.

"Genesis I don’t think she’s in there.” That was probably Vlad.

“There’s someone in there and I can’t get a good read on it, why can’t you use the pendant to track her?” Genesis said getting mad.

“Then I feel like I’m stalking her or something.”

“But isn’t that good as a just in case it happens again? It’s getting worse each time! And I think Mari is starting to notice, why else would Mari visit her in the hospital after a moment like that?”

“Are you sure it’s not a push? Cause I don’t think pulling is helping you that much.” I heard Vlad ask and I could picture Genesis pulling on the doorknob trying to get it open trying to get help from pushing off the walls with his feet against the wall. It made me laugh, then it was silent outside.

“Vlad, I think she’s in there. She’s picturing what I’m doing now.” Genesis said then the thought vanished from my head and I heard them slamming against the door.

Oh fuck I gotta get out of here! I ran to the window opened it and jumped out, before I started running again I shut the window to make it look like I wasn’t there and started running. I kept running I kinda feel like Forrest Gump, I just kept running and I didn’t really know why. But I kept running not completely sure where, but I knew I didn’t want to spend Christmas Eve doing this. I stopped running and just held myself and started walking home. I just wanted this to stop I don’t want to get chased by Vlad or Genesis anymore or get chased by the cops. I just want to go home and be happy like I should be on Christmas Eve. Heh. That hasn’t happened since I was a kid and my mom didn’t get that promotion yet. That’s when I was happy at home.

After a long walk of missing my mom and finding out where my snowmobile had crashed, turned out it accidently crashed into my neighbor’s car. Oh well. I reached my house went inside as soon as I closed the door I went straight to my couch and plopped onto it to take a nap. I had only been laying down on my couch for five minutes, when someone came knocking. Fuck my life. I got up walked to my door undid all of the locks, flung it open and shouted, “What do you want!” I found two scared idiots, otherwise known as Vlad and Genesis leaning back surprised at how pissed off I was.

“Well if you’re not gonna tell me what you want then let me please enjoy my Christmas Eve alone and maybe a visit to Damian’s and apologize to his father for punching him in the stomach.” I said then closed the door.

“Wait, wait!” They both shouted before I closed the door. I opened it back so I could see both of them and Genesis pushed Vlad a little bit.

“Kaige could I talk to you for a second?” Vlad said as Genesis was walking away, hopefully home. I opened the door and shut it when he was inside my house.

“Listen I wanted to say sorry, about everything and I will explain everything it’s just you have to wait-“ Vlad said before I jumped up and hugged him I could feel tears going down my face. And well, as soon as I hugged him his arms were already around me. I heard that Vlad was crying.

“Hey now don’t cry, you’re supposed to be the strong guy. I don’t want you going mushy on me.” I said as I backed up enough to still be in his arms and look at his face. He just laughed and kissed me. I hadn’t kissed him in a while.

“I needed you yesterday, after a breakdown, like a normal one, I needed you to play a song, but you where gone.” Fuck this is turning into a shitty romantic novel. Once my nice little kiss and make up thing with Vlad was over he left, right when he left Mari was at my door.

“Hi Kaige!” She shouted and waved. I could already feel my brain getting ready to explode with anger.

“What do you want?” I asked really wanting to get this over with.

“I was just wondering are you and Vlad still dating?” She asked. It made me laugh inside my head, she wants get him off the rebound.

Ooh that little bitch! I got an idea.

“Well yes and no. It was his choice to not tell me stuff like how you two dated or something like that, he’s still not telling me some stuff so I’m not completely sure. I would ask Genesis if I were you since him and Vlad chased me all around town for god knows what. And thanks for visiting me in the hospital, it sure did creep me out when the nurse told me you were chanting something in Latin.” I said and was closing the door when she grabbed it.

“Listen here you little whore. I know what you’re trying to do and I don’t care if you’re just a bitch trying to steal people who rightfully belong to someone else, but if you continue to try and take Vlad from me I will kill you.” She said in such a serious voice it was really creepy.

“I’m not trying to do anything, you missed your chance when I broke up with him, and I don’t know what’s going on in our relationship right now so I would ask Genesis or well maybe even Vlad, cause I have no fucking idea. And I’m not a whore! You’re the one crawling all over guys who don’t even like you!” I shouted at her then slammed the door in her face.

I went to my Christmas tree and turned the lights on it since I have to, it’s tradition at my house. I went upstairs to my room and slept. It felt like I haven’t slept in days. I had a nice dream it was like my life was back to normal, except I think someone was with my mom. Dad? I woke up remembering it was Christmas. I wasn’t in any rush, I just walked down stairs putting on my 30 Seconds to Mars hoodie in my pjs, of a black tank top and red gym shorts. I was at the bottom of the stairs and when I walked into my living room, I saw a blond guy standing in front of my Christmas tree sipping a cup of coffee. As he turned around I hid on the other side of the wall.

Who the fuck is this guy? How the hell did he get in my house? Is he a squatter or rapist or something?

He sighed than said, “I should check on her and make sure she’s okay. Today is the only day I see her.” He took another sip of coffee then started walking toward the stairs. Fuck, I looked around, grabbed one of my shoes and as soon as he walked through that door I hit him as hard as I could with my shoe. It turned out I did hit him with my shoe, except I hit his face.

“Now that really hurt. Could you please get that out of my face I don’t know where that shoe has been.” He said and I pulled my arm back tossed my shoe on the ground and made sure I got a good distance between him.

“Oh so you are up. Well Kaige I’m your father.” He said still calm as ever.

“Yeah right. Mom said that my father was an ass whole who left her and never showed his face again ever since I was born!” I shouted that last part cause this guy was creepy.

“Please listen Kaige.” He said some pleading in his voice.

“No you listen I ask questions you answer, and you pull any funny stuff I’m calling the cops.” I waited for him to answer and he just nodded his head as he took another sip of coffee.

“How did you get into this house?”

“I found the spare key in the flower pot.” Only me and my mom know that.

“Where did you come from?”

“I can’t tell you that since you’re not ready.”

“I’ve heard that multiple times-“

“From who, Vlad? It’s true you aren’t though he’s trying to protect you from, oh god knows what, but since I know what it’s probably gonna be from Mari or something. Genesis is trying to be nice to you but he just wants you to be in love with him. Vlad actually is a different story would you like to hear?” He said with a creepy smile on his face.

“Who are you?” I asked still wanting to keep my distance.

“Kaige I am your father, Luke if you want a name, and I know everything about you. I know that you’re confused about you and Vlad’s relationship, worried Genesis might actually be better than him, if Mari is out for blood, and if you should say screw those three and hopefully live a nice life with Damian.” I stared at him like he was fucking nuts, yet all of those things are true. “Now if I may, if you don’t mind I need to look at the scars on your back.” Luke said and I did as he said since his smile was gone. I turned around pulled up my shirt as I heard him walk towards me. He unhooked my bra and took a look at it. He looked at it for a long time then hooked my bra back and I put my shirt back to normal. I turned around and looked at him.

“Now you wanted to hear Vlad’s story?” He said as he motioned toward the living room. I walked quickly and sat down on the couch, while Luke sat across from me in an arm chair. “I could tell you all three of their stories if you like?” He asked putting the mug of coffee on the coffee table.

“Vlad’s first.” I said.

“Alright Vlad then, when I first met Vlad he didn’t know what to do. He remembered his life full of hatred and abuse, he was glad that he got away somehow. When I showed him what happened, he saw a carriage crash and there were two bodies, I told him there were suppose to be three. At first he was confused, but when I explained to him the weird things that have been happening to him and told him it meant for him to be an angel. First he thought I was crazy, but when he realized the two bodies where his parents and when the police saw him they thought they’ve seen a ghost. That made him decide to come with me and teach him what he knows now and I helped him with controlling his powers. He doesn’t use them as much as Genesis or Mari. Are you okay you look a little confused?” He asked me cause I was fascinated yet confused.

“Angels?” I asked.

“I’ll explain after the stories. But after I helped him, it sure was a fun time, in 1875 I believe, but after I helped him and took him, well upstairs and he met Him. A couple years later in 1878 we found Genesis standing on Notre Dame, in France, terrorizing people by dressing up as a gargoyle. After that we caught him and we took him to train, but he was a trouble maker. Surprised he didn’t cause you any trouble.” He said when I interrupted him.

“You weren’t here when he first showed up at school. Fucking dipped me.” I said trailing off in my anger.

“Okay. Well after that and trained him while we were upstairs we bumped into Mari and apparently she fell in love with Vlad. She’s been up there for a couple of years already completed her training and such, but she wanted more. I’ll explain that later. She kept appearing as we went recruiting more people she would also come with us on breaks, here. And she then spread word thinking that her and Vlad were dating or something. Vlad found out and got mad, he then fled down here and has enrolled in school multiple times and has graduated at top of his class. Once I found him again I talked to him about recruiting a few more people before I sent him on a secret assignment that no one else knows about. Actually when I sent him and Genesis to go find people just turning I came down here and found your mother. After we had fallen in love and you were born although it turned out Michael had found out and only allows me to visit on Christmas. But back to Vlad’s story. He was recruiting Helena’s mother who died recently in Florida, and he never came back. It turned out he made a life there. When I came to visit, Genesis had been visiting him and never told me. I ordered Genesis to leave that’s when I told Vlad about his secret assignment and sent him here. And yet he excludes to inform me yet I already know, that he has fallen in love with someone, you. And now Mari is mad about it since she loves him and now she’s out for blood. Genesis on the other hand, is being manipulated by Mari and can’t realize it, that’s why he came here with a gun to kill you, but somehow he didn’t. And the day you got mad at Vlad and broke up with him. He was practically killed, Mari missed her opportunity, and is confronting Vlad right now and he should be calling you right about now.” Luke said then my phone rang.

I picked it up and said, “Hello?”

“Kaige it’s Vlad. Mari just asked me if we were still dating, I was wondering if that was true.”

“Vlad I kinda can’t talk right now, ask Genesis or something.”

“You talk to me now! It’s my turn to be pissed off! You tell me what’s going on right now!” He shouted through the phone.

“Vlad my dad is here. I gotta go.” I said then hung up the phone.

“Sorry about that.” I said then put my phone down.

“Did I mention that Vlad did what you are doing now when he was alive?” He said.

“Huh?” I said a confused look on my face.

“Cutting yourself. I’m not blind you know. He actually did it whenever he was sad, and felt lonely. I think when he saw that you were cutting yourself he kind of freaked.” Luke said.

It made me wonder why he would be cutting himself. I mean he has such a nice life, I guess.

“Obviously you never met his parents.” Luke chuckled.

“And what are you a mind reader?” I asked trying to mock him.

“It’s one of my many powers. It’s also Genesis’. Mari’s is manipulating people. And Vlad’s is many things he’s only used them a few times I don’t really remember what they are.” He said, I nodded showing Luke that I understood what he meant.

“Can I hear Genesis’ story?” I asked getting a little more comfortable with Luke, now knowing I might be able to trust him.

“Genesis was a troublemaker yet I question how he became an angel. He always got in trouble in class. He was very loved by the ladies, but one tragic night when he was walking home alone after a nice day of pranking his high school’s principal and not getting caught, hanging out with his friends, at the time, and trying to find the one he would make his wife. This was at night I might add, that one day he was murdered. He thought his day would never be awful, until that. He got up after the person who murdered him was going crazy whether or not he killed him or it was stupid or the wrong thing to do. He knew this by reading his mind. At first he thought he was going crazy until a woman walked by thinking about how come she couldn’t find a husband. He just ran back home and pretended that nothing happened. He went and told his friends, but they just laughed. No one believed him that was when one day he asked help from the priest at the local church about what happened. The priest told him that he was saved by God and given powers only angels could have. The priest asked him if he could manifest wings, when he did the priest thought it was the most beautiful thing ever, even though his wings were blood red while the tips of them black.”

“Whoa so you guys are actual angels like halo, wings and robes?” I asked now kinda starting to understand about angels.

Luke chuckled and said, “Yes except we choose what we get to wear, and don’t have halos. But that’s when we arrived, he was scaring people thinking that the gargoyles were real on the Notre Dame. After we confronted him and taken him upstairs, and put him through all of his training we took him on his first mission which was to recruit a girl who had trouble with coping that her entire family was dead. He took it like a natural. He talked to her calmly not joking around and explained to her that she wasn’t alone and that we were there to help. She had already agreed to come with us, no hassle or anything. When he met Mari she had already her eyes set to use him later incase Vlad had decided to take things the hard way. After a while of recruiting people again, he found Vlad in Florida breaking the rules. First he congratulated him and then asked why he was there, once he found out that Vlad was enjoying life here, he came back and kept it secret for a while, until I visited Vlad. Then he came to visit him at school, where he ran into you. That made him try to charm you, when he found out that you’re hard to get he liked the challenge, but later in the hallway he seemed to find a side of his that hasn’t showed up since the first time he helped that girl come with us. And he tries to get you to see that.”

Now that made me feel extremely bad, and I hope Genesis is reading my mind right now cause I wanted to say sorry, to all the mean things I put him through, and I gotta find a way for him to realize that Mari is manipulating him.

“The only thing that can stop Mari from manipulating someone is if it’s something they truly desire with their heart or you find a way for Mari to show her true colors.” Luke said answering my question.

“You really like to read my mind don’t you?” I asked, getting a little annoyed with that.

“Well the teenage mind is truly an interesting place, I mean try figuring out what Genesis and Vlad were thinking when they were not on the job, it gave me a headache.”

That made me laugh, I’m a little worried about hearing Mari’s story, it’s like I want to hear yet I’m scared to.

“Well then Mari’s is next. She was a stuck up bitch. She always was a kiss up. I’m glad I didn’t recruit her, but when she saw the kind of power I had she wanted to be my apprentice because of it. I didn’t want to get into any business with her. She was the same when she was alive, I really don’t know how she became an angel. She stabbed people in the back, ended up having someone commit suicide because of her. But she smells power and will do anything to get it. She first became Michael’s apprentice but when she met me she sensed something dark get to her and that she could become as powerful as me somehow. I think that Hades got to her somehow, she did the same thing with Vlad. She thought she could manipulate him, but when she found out that he could block her somehow like how I do it. She had a friend up in heaven who had a greater manipulating power, the next thing you know she was dead. Mari was the one who witnessed her ‘suicide’ when I could tell that she killed her. Next thing you know she’s manipulating Genesis and trying to get Vlad and my powers. Although I’ll tell you this, she can’t kill me and she won’t kill Vlad. Genesis is just a pawn.”  Luke finished me with the warning.

“May I see the pendant you’re wearing?” Luke asked motioning to the pendant Vlad gave me I had around my neck.

“Yeah sure.” I said took it off then handed it to him. Once I handed it to him a jolt went through me, and when he was analyzing it I looked at him like I was kind of confused.

Then something in the back of my mind whispered, Kill him.

And I obeyed it.

Next thing I know I tackled him while he was in the chair and grabbed his throat and started choking him. He was choking until he laughed then said, “Mari you really think you can have my daughter kill me?”

It sounded like it was hard for him to breathe. I was saying stuff that I wasn’t even controlling.

“Yes! If I can’t than maybe someone of your own blood can!” I shouted at him. Was I her puppet? He laughed then put his feet under my gut and pushed me and it had me fly and crashing into the wall, which left a very big dent in it. He then walked over and grabbed my throat and was choking me.

“I’m sorry Kaige, but you either fight her or I gotta fight you.” He said gripping tighter.

“You really gonna kill your own daughter?” Mari said through me. He then got the scary look that he was gonna kill me, and it started to go away along with his grip on my throat. Soon he dropped me onto the floor. I started coughing up blood, but that didn’t stop Mari from controlling me.

“Big mistake daddy.” She said, then I ran into him with my shoulder which caused him to fly to the other wall which caused the windows on that side to break.

Fuck mom is gonna kill me! How do I get Mari out of my head? The one thing my heart desires? I don’t know what that is!

Next thing I see is Luke has a bunch of the Christmas lights tied up into a lasso, then he catches me in the lasso, ties me up then comes back with a small arm chair and ties me up to it with the rest of the lights. Well isn’t this cheesy. Reminds me of Home Alone for some reason. Then Luke grabbed my phone and called two people. Then once he was done he looked at me.

“Mari we could do this the hard way or the easy way.” He said leaning in front of my face.

“I’m not getting rid of her until your blood is on her hands.” She said. God damn I hate being a puppet.

“What if you can’t kill me?”

“Then I’ll kill her.”

“You know she’s half angel right? She’s not gonna die easily, her powers are only starting to manifest.”

“I don’t care she’s just in the way, besides I can make it look like a suicide easily.” She said I could picture the smug grin on her face. It just made me want to kill her.

Then Genesis and Vlad barged through my door. Vlad rushed over to my side, and brushed my cheek and she smiled through me. Mari once I get my hands on you you’re dead for ruining my Christmas.

“Vlad I wouldn’t get to close Mari is controlling her.” Luke said then backed away and I could feel her smile fading.

“He’s lying! He put me in this chair for no goddamn reason!” I said pointing to Luke.

“Where’s the pendant it should help her.” Vlad wondered.

“I lost it when she tried choking me.” Luke said and Genesis came over.

“Kaige if you’re in there please say something.” He asked which made me feel really bad for some reason. And I got control.

“Find it quick before she comes back!” I said already feeling her creeping back in which had me starting to cry.

“Please she’s coming back!” I said now starting to ball my eyes out.

“Don’t worry Kaige we’re trying as best as we can. Genesis stay with her.” Luke said then went back to helping Vlad. Before I knew it she was back controlling me.

“Genesis what are you doing? You should be helping them not me, find the necklace.” Mari said and he just ran upstairs to my room and was looking for the wrong necklace.

“Heh heh, that’s a good little pawn.” She said under her breath giggling, and Luke came over.

“Mari this is the last time! Either let her go or we’ll force you out!” Luke said now I can see the anger in his eyes.

“Forcing wouldn’t mean killing your own daughter would it? Cause that would be awful if her mom came home finding out that her daughter died and no one was there to help her cope with it, or stop the killer?” Mari said oozing with that she already knew what he was going to say.

“Luke you’re her father?” Vlad asked, holding something in his hand I hoped was the pendant. While Luke was busy trying to think of something to say Genesis came back down with the necklace.

“Oh Genesis you found it! I knew you were a good pawn!” She said with a grin and then Genesis put the necklace on around my neck. And there went the hope of my freedom. I didn’t know what it did but Mari had total control, nothing could get her out of me unless they took the necklace off.

“So I’m assuming you have to kill her now?” She asked, me now a total puppet with no free will.

“What are you talking about?” Vlad asked, confused on what she meant.

“Well since I know you can never kill me, and even I don’t know what she really wants before she dies so I guess you have to kill her now.” She said a smug grin on her face. Luke walked up to me he looked at the necklace, I saw Vlad behind Genesis and holding him back so he won’t interfere. Luke took off the necklace, and replaced it with the pendant.

“What took you so god damn long!” I shouted at them. Luke was untying me when Vlad let go of Genesis. After I had been untied I got up and stretched glad not to be a puppet anymore. Vlad walked over and kissed me while also engulfing me in a hug.

“I’m glad to be kissing you instead of Mari.” He said as I hugged him back tears running down my face. I went towards Genesis.

“Vlad the next action I have to do is to save his ass don’t get too mad, Luke can explain it.” I said and Genesis looked at me like I was crazy. That’s when I kissed him, I could already picture Vlad’s face getting red with anger. But Genesis was already engulfing me in his arms, one of his hands was on my back the other the back of my head.

We just stood there for a few seconds kissing I was actually trying to back away, but Genesis obviously wanted to make it last. Vlad then cleared his throat, that’s when Genesis finally backed away.

“Sorry I wanted to do that for a while.” He said me still in his arms.

“Wow.” Is all I had to say.

“Actually that felt pretty nice a weight lifted off my shoulders.” He said then started jumping up and down, now I’m not in his arms.

“His latest desire was a kiss from my daughter. Hm. I wonder who I’ll give my blessing to.” Luke said I turned to him and well, he was actually starting to be more of a father. He just gave me a smile.

“Kaige go get dressed and I’ll take care of the living room.” He said then motioned me upstairs. I walked upstairs, and I heard Luke shout, “Alright boys let’s get to work.”

Oh god. Now they gotta work for his blessing. It’s probably gonna be hell on Earth for them. I went upstairs and changed into my usual skinny jeans, Aiden band t-shirt, and my AFI hoodie. I walked in the doorway leading into the living room, and saw Vlad putting up Christmas decorations around the room, Genesis putting the lights on my Christmas tree, and I saw Luke supervising.

“So what did you do?” I asked him as I walked up to him.

“I fixed the wall that I flung you into. Vlad needed to try doing harder stuff so he fixed the wall I crashed into. Genesis was in charge of putting the tree back and cooking.” Luke said, and by cooking he probably meant microwaving.

“It sucks how I can only visit one day a year.” He said.

“Well yeah, I guess. I mean what do I tell mom? I met my father, he’s an angel and only visits on Christmas? My main question is how are they going to get your blessing?” I asked.

“Kaige there are many things in this world that I can answer. For now here’s some answers. You don’t tell your mother you met me. I’m always watching over you, not in a creepy way though. And your future is blurry at the moment, so I’m not sure which one you’ll go for, but since you fulfilled Genesis’ heart’s desire it might be a little harder to get rid of him. On the bright side Mari can’t control him anymore, and Vlad isn’t as mad anymore. His best friend isn’t being controlled by a crazy teenager wanting power. And I put my number into your cell so that in case you need anything call or text, and I do mean anything. I’m willing to break the rules to help my daughter.” He said keeping some distance from me.

“Oh and by the way since your powers are now developing you’ll remain looking that age, and you’ll start getting wings, the strange things that happened to you might get a little worse, but that’s what those two are for.” Luke said then walked away and went to talk to Genesis. Vlad then came up and hugged me.

“Have you found out what your heart’s desire is yet?” He asked as he kissed the top of my head.

“Not yet. I’m still unsure about it. And to prove my point about not sure, there’s things that Genesis might be better at then you.” I said starting to kinda tease him.

“Like what?” He said, I could already sense him getting mad.

“Like I don’t know, kissing.” I said then went to my Christmas tree, to say hi to Genesis, that’s when Luke went over to Vlad to talk to him.

“So thank you for saving my life from Mari.” He said trying to act cool.

“Hey I can’t have my friend being controlled by a power craving whore.” I said and that made him laugh.

“Can I have another kiss? For good measure?”

“Sorry, but I don’t know if my heart wants you or not.”

“But in your mind you think it’s tempting.”

“Yeah, but the mind can lie and besides you need my dad’s blessing. And even he doesn’t know what my heart’s desire is. So apparently my future is a little blurry.”

“Aw. He told me that I gotta watch over you when he’s gone. That means we’ll be seeing a lot of each other.” That turned my smile straight to a frown.

“Well maybe not so much, I mean in all honesty. Cause I don’t really want you or Vlad turning into stalkers.”

“Well then are you dating anyone now?”

“That’s what I’ve been confused about.”

“I have a feeling that you’re dating Vlad, but don’t worry you will be mine one day! I promise.” He said then pulled the cheesiest of cheesy moves and kissed my hand.

Luke then walked over and said, “Well Kaige it was nice meeting you, but limited time on Earth and such. I will see you next year or whenever you really need me.”

“Alright I’ll miss you.”

“We’ll try our best to protect her sir!” Genesis said with a salute.

“See you soon Luke.” Vlad said draping his arm over my shoulders. Luke waved goodbye to us then walked out my door. And that was it the door shut behind him.

“Wow that wasn’t an exciting departure at all.” I said and then Vlad and Genesis started cracking up laughing.

“I love you.” Vlad said then kissed me. I kissed him back since I loved him too.

Genesis just hugged me from behind, putting his head on my shoulder saying, “Hey I love you too! Where’s my kiss?” I sighed turned around and kissed him on the cheek.

“That’s not the place I had in mind.” He said and I started laughing and then went to the living room and motioned them to follow me and well that was my Christmas. After a few hours of Christmas fun and stuff. It was time they had to leave and for me to get to bed. It felt like I haven’t slept in like forever so it felt like heaven when I laid down on my bed. Right when I hit my pillow I fell asleep. This dream was kinda lame so you don’t get to hear it. But I woke up and was happy to have no one knocking on my window or door, or no one calling or texting. I walked down the stairs, pulling a hoodie on (I already finished getting dressed) and when I looked into the living room I found someone sitting on the armchair not facing the hallway. I quietly went down the last few steps grabbed my shoe, and tip toed over to the living room. I was behind the chair when the person said, “Don’t do anything you might regret.”

Right when I was about to hit him on the head. And I had to lose my momentum so I didn’t smack Genesis on the head.

“What the hell are you doing in my house! No better question how did you get into my house!” I shouted at him. He was eating some cookies.

“I wanted to say hi, but each time I knocked or rang the door bell you didn’t answer. So I tried opening your front door, didn’t work. Back door was open so I walked in and grabbed some cookies.” He said then ate another cookie. I slapped my palm on my forehead.

“Well great. Well you said hi and now I think it is time for you to go.” I said as my phone started ringing. “Please go I got to answer the phone.” I said walking towards the home phone.

“Is this the Krysin residence?” The man on the other line said.

“Yes who may I be speaking to?” I said a little worried.

“This is Breaker, chief of Los Angeles police department. I’m calling about your mother.” Breaker said I could hear the little sadness in his voice.

“Yeah what’s wrong with her? Is she ok?” I said cause I’ve seen a lot of movies and this is not a good sign.

“I’m afraid I have some bad news. Your mother was killed. She was going in to try and stop a criminal, but it was a trap. We lost a lot of good people today, and I’m sorry that one of them was your mother. Do you have anyone who can come take care of you? And the body is being sent over so you can have a funeral.” Breaker asked.

“My dad left us when I was little, my grandparents are dead, the only person I can think of is my uncle. And he lives in Germany as a movie star.”

“Well then call him and tell him that he needs to come and take care of you.” Breaker said then hung-up the phone. I hung up as well. I quickly called Locke.

“Hallo?” Locke answered on the other line.

“Hey Locke it’s Kaige.” I said.

“Kaige how is my favorite nichte?” He said extremely happy.

“Not good. Mom died. Cops want you as my legal guardian.”

“What big sis is dead? Well I’ll see you after winter break then.”

“Alright and don’t forget to pack. We don’t want what happened when you moved there.”

“Alright bye.” He said then hung up. Once I put the phone down. Genesis was behind me.

“I’m surprised you’re holding up.” Right when he said that I burst into tears. And he just wrapped his arms around me saying that everything was going to be ok.

“I’ll call Vlad over. And tell Luke she’s on her way.” Genesis said as he left our hug.

And I just stood there trying to face the fact that my mother is dead. More tears came streaming down my face. I had my back leaning on the doorframe and slid down to the floor. After sitting there and crying Vlad walked next to me. He didn’t say anything he just sat down next to me, and hugged me.

“Don’t worry. The good thing is that you’re here, surrounded by people who care about you.” Vlad said, then kissed the top of my head.

“What sucks is my uncle is coming to take care of me. And apparently we now have limited time together otherwise he’ll go total Nazi on both of us.” I said. That made him smile which made me melt. He kissed me. That made me smile knowing that there are still people who love me who are alive. Genesis walked over with his phone and handed it to me.

“Kaige is everything alright?” Luke said on the other end.

“Yeah dad. It’s just that mom got shot trying to bring a guy in. She should be coming up there soon. Say hi to her for me. And tell her Locke is gonna take care of me.” I said into the phone.

“What!?” I could already see Luke’s eyes widening. “Her stupid brother is gonna take care of you! No I can’t let this happen! I’ll find something to make sure he doesn’t have to take care of you!” He said panicking through the phone.

“What would you rather have Genesis take care of me or something? He’s about as bad as him. I think I’ll live with Locke. Besides he believes everything. So it’ll be easy to hide things from him. Don’t worry Luke everything will be fine.” I said then hung up on him and handed Genesis his phone back. There was a knock at my door. I went to go answer it and Genesis ran into the living room trying to hide if it was Mari probably. I went to answer the door while Vlad went to talk to Genesis. I opened the door and saw Damian standing there.

“Hey Damian.” I said.

“Hey Kaige. I heard about your mom, on the news and I thought the least I could do was come over and say I’m sorry about what happened. Apparently the guy has already killed a couple of families, and just some kids too. Like people our age.” Damian said. I could tell he didn’t really know what to do. I could tell that he liked me and I liked him, but he just needs to be in school for a few days to learn some basics.

I hugged him and said. “Thanks for your sympathy I’m really glad you care.”

After I finished hugging him I saw him blush. “I gotta go plan a funeral and get ready for when my uncle comes. So I guess I might see you at the funeral? There’s not gonna be a lot of family there’s pretty much just my uncle, me and people that knew her.” I said and he said he would come then went back home. I closed the door and then walked over to where Vlad and Genesis were.

“So you guys wanna help me plan a funeral or..?” I asked them as I sat in between them.

“Kaige you should relax a bit while Vlad and I work out the funeral thing. Alright?” Genesis said, wrapping his arm around me.

“And you’re on the first shift of planning, Genesis.” Vlad said moving Genesis’s arm off of me and putting his around me. Genesis shrugged got up and walked toward the kitchen, hopefully to make phone calls and not raid my fridge. Vlad and I just cuddled for a while until I fell asleep. I dreamed that mom was happy with Luke and that she forgave him for why he left since now she could understand why he couldn’t visit. I woke up later with Genesis sitting in an armchair, almost falling asleep.

“Vlad had to go somewhere. He should be back soon.” He said with a smile as I got up.

I stretched and said, “How’s the planning going?”

“We’re pretty much done we got a call about your uncle that he was gonna leave his house soon not sure when he was gonna get here.” Genesis said still sitting. I pulled him up and hugged him.

“Thanks for taking care of this stuff for me.” I said and he just hugged back. I could tell that he was glad that I hugged him, but he wishes I kissed him instead.

It made me laugh. Then he just backed away.

“What? I’m sorry! It was funny to me! C’mon Genesis don’t be such a meanie!” I said at him as he walked a distance.

“What happened to being nicer?” He asked still not wanting to look at me.

“Hey I’m sorry I thought it was funny! You know I still love you! I’m sorry.” I said and I could sense someone at the door. “Someone’s coming. Dear god I hope it’s not my no good uncle.” I said as I was about to go to the door.

“No good? Well that’s not very nice now is it Kaige?” I heard a voice coming from there say. My eyes widened as I turned around and saw Locke standing in the hallway to the living room.
