Burn Victim

Empty years of hoping
for love to embrace me,
my methods of coping
now seek to erase me.

Like a car long rusted,
my heart tries to rally.
So sorry I trusted;
I’m still in this valley.

Sweet poems, a love song
no longer bear beauty.
Blazing anger so strong
roars up to consume me.

The fire of my outrage
is useless and wasted
for nothing will assuage
the dreams I once tasted.

Long years lie before me.
Each dawn brings bitter pain.
Your love holds me tightly
as I wait here in vain.
